Reviewer's Summary: Average Food; Dingy Place

A small, dingy place on Lexington Avenue, Katie Rolls & Chat House is managed by the same folks that also run the adjacent Banana Leaf and the across-the-road Indo-Wok restaurants.

Katie Rolls is basically a no frills fast food place with the menu restricted mainly to Rolls, Chaats, Juices and Smoothies.

You walk in, place your order at the counter on the left and walk down into the basement. The waiter brings the food down to the dining section downstairs.

The dining room looks, feels and smells like it hasn't been cleaned for several weeks. Not surprisingly, within minutes we found a small roach on the table.

We ordered a perennial favorite Pav Bhaji ($5.95) and a Spicy Chickpeas Roll ($4.00). Our food took about 15 minutes to arrive.

Pav Bhaji is a type of Chaat and came with shredded onion. While it's not the best Pav Bhaji we've had, it was reasonably tasty but a bit on the oily side.

The Spicy Chickpeas Roll though not spicy enough for our palate was not bad.

Masala Chai was alright, better than that served by its costlier peers in the neighborhood.

Besides vegetarian and non-vegetarian rolls, Katie Rolls serves a variety of Chaats as well as an array of Juices and Smoothies.

We were at Katie Roll on a Tuesday afternoon for about an hour and for the entire duration we were the only customers. - © Rekha Inc.
